Landscape Architecture in Mallorca for Gardens with Character

Johannes Dütsch – My Landscaping Group Mallorca

My Landscaping Group develops custom garden and outdoor space designs for residential homes, fincas, and high-end real estate projects—tailored to the architecture, the property, the Mediterranean climate, and the people who use the outdoor space.

A good garden doesn't reveal how much planning went into it. Paths seem to flow naturally, plants appear to be exactly where they belong, patios connect the house to the landscape, and even lighting and irrigation blend seamlessly into the overall picture. To achieve this sense of natural ease, many decisions must be made long before the first shovel hits the ground.

Johannes Dütsch has been planning and designing gardens in Mallorca since 2008. His combination of botanical expertise, architecture, and Mediterranean landscape design led to the founding of the landscape architecture firm My Landscaping Group in Santa Ponsa in 2014. Today, the team develops custom outdoor spaces for private residences, fincas, and exclusive real estate projects throughout the island.

Landscape design in Mallorca starts with the property

The starting point is not a specific garden style, but the site itself. The topography, existing vegetation, orientation, architecture, and atmosphere of a property form the basis of every design. Added to this are the owners' wishes and the question of how the garden will actually be used in the future.

Should the patio become the central outdoor living space? Does the property need shaded retreats? Which sightlines should be opened up or deliberately shielded? How can existing trees be incorporated? And which plants will thrive not only aesthetically but also under the specific conditions of the site?

Based on this analysis, My Landscaping Group develops a customized design in which paths, terraces, planting areas, lighting, irrigation, and special design elements are coordinated with one another.

The result is not a decorative addition to the building, but rather an outdoor space that connects architecture and landscape.

Garden Design and 3D Visualization Before Construction

Especially when it comes to large-scale garden projects, it is often difficult to fully capture the scope of the project using traditional floor plans alone. That is why My Landscaping Group works with detailed plans and realistic 3D visualizations.

This allows homeowners to visualize, even during the planning phase, how proportions, pathways, planting areas, and patios will interact once the garden is complete. The future garden design comes to life in three dimensions and can be further refined in collaboration with the planning team before construction begins.

This provides a much better basis for decision-making—especially when comparing different materials, plant structures, or design options.

Mediterranean Garden Design with a Focus on Climate and Water

A garden in Mallorca must meet different requirements than a garden in Central Europe. Summer heat, varying soil conditions, and limited water resources influence the selection and combination of plants as well as the technical planning of the irrigation system.

The use of Mediterranean plants therefore plays a central role in My Landscaping Group. Plants are not selected solely for their aesthetic appeal. It is equally important that they are suited to the specific location, can cope with the climate, and can thrive over the long term.

It's also about the garden's impact throughout the year. Well-designed planting plans take into account different flowering times, textures, colors, and growth habits, ensuring that a garden remains appealing long after it's been completed.

Water-sensitive landscape design and irrigation planning are integrated into the overall concept from the very beginning. This allows us to combine aesthetic aspirations with a mindful use of Mallorca's natural resources.

From patios and walkways to lighting and planting designs

Landscape architecture doesn't end with selecting suitable plants. Outdoor spaces are created through the interplay of many elements.

Patios create transitions between the house and the garden. Paths define lines of movement and lines of sight. Plantings provide structure, create shade or privacy, and transform the garden as the seasons change. Thoughtfully designed lighting highlights selected areas after dark and extends the usability of the outdoor space.

Irrigation, in turn, must be tailored to the plants, the area, and the location.

My Landscaping Group brings these elements together into a cohesive whole right from the planning stage. The goal is to create gardens full of character that do not appear to be an afterthought, but rather feel like a natural part of the property and its architecture.

Project Management from Planning to Execution

A detailed garden design serves as the foundation. It is then crucial that the design concept is faithfully carried out on the construction site.

My Landscaping Group therefore supports projects from the initial concept through to implementation. This includes detailed design, the selection of high-quality plants and materials, the coordination of the specialized contractors involved, and ongoing quality control throughout the project.

For property owners, this means that planning and execution are not considered separately. The landscape architecture firm keeps an eye on the design throughout the implementation process and provides expert guidance at every stage.

A Europe-wide network of select nurseries expands the options for plant selection. This network also makes it possible to source special plant varieties and striking specimen trees for custom garden designs.

Anyone looking for an experienced landscape architect in Mallorca to design sophisticated private gardens and outdoor spaces will benefit from a combination of plant knowledge, spatial planning, and many years of experience on the island.

Landscape architecture shaped by botanical expertise and international experience

Johannes Dütsch's career path first took him to nurseries in England, then to Germany to study landscape architecture, and later to the south of France, where he gained further experience with the use of Mediterranean plants and garden design.

He has been working in Mallorca since 2008. In 2014, he founded My Landscaping Group. Today, he works with an interdisciplinary team on the planning and implementation of a wide variety of garden and landscape projects.

This combination of landscape architecture, knowledge of plants, spatial planning, and experience with the conditions in Mallorca continues to shape our approach to this day.

The goal is clear: not fleeting garden backdrops, but outdoor spaces with their own character—gardens that can evolve and feel as though they have always belonged there.
